Friday 15th August 2025

Welcome to the Costa del Jelltex.

Friday, and the summer really returned. It was hot before seven in the morning. And only got warmer.

Foolishly, had agreed to go to the gym, so off we went at seven, and only 15 minutes into my session I over-heated and had to bail, going to stand outside in the shadows until Jools came out.

Back home, and quickly round Scully up to take to the vet for her test results.

We nip to Whitfield, and in the session we found that her glucose levels were down to something close to normal, and curving upwards at the nadir some five hours after her breakfast.

Its a start.

A big start.

But already her appetite is diminished, and she is not thinking about food all the time. We now have to monitor her blood-sugars and make sure that she is kept "normal".

Gosh, it feels so good in just writing that.. She has been so ill, so desperate, that her fur regaining its sheen and she not meowing all the time for food, is great.

And many thanks to a good friend on here, without whose help we would not have had the information to make the surgery change course.

I got an apology from the head vet, and another due to the contradictory we received from the nurse just 18 hours before.

They have to do better, not just for Scully, but for all cats.

And finally she said they should have acted sooner of Scully's failure to respond to the original insulin.

No.Shit.Sherlock.

I drop Jools off at the library on the way home, and take me and Scully back home where there is the washing up to do, and the first of the bins to take back off the street.

Two hundred and twenty seven It was warm enough to sit in the shelter and listen to a podcast, while watching the comings and goings of the garden.

It was a hive of activity, and shows how our hard work in getting more pollinator friendly plants has worked.

I pick Jools up at midday so she did not have to talk down and up Station Road, as the physio said she has to rest.

Our little piece of heaven Her husband also said that. But, hey.

Once home we had bacon butties and a strong brew, before settling down for a quiet afternoon now that all appointments had been attended to.

I water some of the garden as some flowers were beginning to wilt. We have lots in butts, so I splashed a few dozen gallons about.

I thought I deserved a beer, so poured one, and sat on the patio surveying our little piece of heaven on the edge of England.

Garlic bread with cheese I take part in the weekly music quiz: come 9th, so not a total loss, then make dinner.

Caprese with home made garlic bread with cheese.

I drank the last of the XV, as we ate like Italian Kings and Queens.

For the evening there was the return of the Prem: Liverpool v Bournemouth. Ended 4-2 to Liverpool, but defending on both sides was laughable, and games featuring both teams will not be dull. Whether such a team can win the league is another matter.
