Wednesday 15th October 2025

A day off from the gym, so I slept in until half seven. I had heard the little chirp from Cleo as she discovered me still in bed, then woke me further jumping onto my feet before nesting behind my knee.

Morning, then.

It was another dull, still, and damp day. Heavy drizzle filled the air, and drifted along the valley like curtains of mist.

It didn't feel warm much either.

So we had a brew, then breakfast before pondering what to do with the day.

Jools, it turned out, had found a new craft group. In Bromley. And she would catch the train there at eleven.

Before that, she did her fitness class, and suffered no ill-effects from her cough.

Back home for a brew, then I dropped her off at Priory Station so she could catch the Victoria train.

I went to see Jen, as its been ten days since we had visited because of our coughs/flu. All is well there, and will soon be time for her and Jane to fly out to Florida. I will drive them to the airport, and collect them, though they don't land until two in the morning.

That to look forward to.

Back home to check Scully and give her lunch. On the way I went to Tesco where I bought a Christmas turkey sandwich, masala flavoured crisps and two egg custards.

I know how to live.

Back to the house, and once Scully was sorted, I have lunch whilst listening to the radio.

I check the garden again for orchids, and this time find a rosette: a Pyramidal showing where there was a plant these last two years.

Two hundred and eighty eight The kitchen is about empty, and the living room full of boxes of stuff. All items not needed have either been dumped or donated.

Empty shelves Darkness falls, and I get a call at six that she was 15 minutes out from Dover. So I drive down to Priory again to wait.

The train was 6 minutes late, another having arrived before, and Jools's non-appearance then made me think I'd made a mistake.

But no.

She climbed in and we went home, where most of dinner was prepared: just the minted lamb to cook and the cheesey creamed spinach to heat up, then dish up the rice.

Vault City Toffee Nut Latte Stout. 11% ABV. We clear up, and suddenly are both pooped. But linger doing our hobbies until nine, when the thrill of Mansfield v Newcastle U21s faded.
