In 2016 nearly 96% of the electorate of Gibraltar voted to remain in the EU.
It left along with the UK.
Many might not remember news stories from the 80s and early 90s of queues for hours if not days to cross the border into Spain there. Being in the EU removed that issue.
How that border would work, along with the one down the island of Ireland was key to how Brexit would work. Most Brexiteers pretended it wasn't an issue, either was an issue, but there were good reasons as to why both needed to be special cases.
This week, Gibratar rejoined the SM and CU, and Brexiteers lost their shit, but it was inevitable.
Brexit was done at speed so that there was no time to think of the issues, get it done and then sort it out. Rather than identify the issues, come up with solutions, because once the issues were identified, the sheer stupidity of Brexit would be manifest.
It might not mean much, if anything, but the first UK territory is now beck inside the SM and CU, and might not be the last.
Referendums are fine, to a point, but their mandate ends after the next election, as general elections are where the electorate appoints a Government along with policies. Labour won on improving relations, which is what they're doing.
Brexiteers and many papers are trying to refight the Brexit wars, many will have moved on.
