Tuesday 3rd June 2025

We had been waiting all day for the rain, actual water from the skies, to arrive. So planned nothing all afternoon. And in the end it began soon after tea time, light at first, then steady by bed time.

Before that, the day started out bright. I had put out the moth trap, but caught nothing much of interest, and nothing I can currently ID myself. So, as soon as I was up, out to turn the lamp off and check on the trapees, and release them so when the rain came, they might not drown.

The lawnmeadow at high summer Then put the trap and lead away before going back to the house for coffee.

After breakfast, Jools said she was going to try to walk into town, but she would call if she wanted picking up before.

So I stayed home, poised by the phone in case she rang.

And ring she did.

She had got to Langdon Hole, and decided walking into the teeth of a keen breeze, she had had enough, so I launched Thunderbird 7, out little Audi, to go and collect her from Reach Road.

The lawnmeadow at high summer Back home for lunch, and I cooked buttermilk chicken along with salad, which was pretty darn good.

And then the long dark afternoon of the soul, as clouds thickened, winds strengthened, and the air got moist, but there was no actual rain.

I made caprese for dinner, with some garlic bread, which hit the spot. By which time we had closed the window and put the heating on, as it was darned chilly.

One hundred and fifty three Then the rain began, soft gentle rain that will soak into the soil, and hopefully give life to the stressed plants in our garden and on the downs.
