Saturday 2nd november 2013

And Thursday rolled round: time to head back to work and so the day begins with pretending the alarm had not gone off. And then getting up, trying to find all my stuff for work, put out the bins, and finally put some bird food out. And we're set.

There is something good about the drive to work. Driving down into Dover, being able to look over the Channel to France before heading down Connaught Hill into the town to the factory, and then back up again before heading to Sandwich and onto Ramsgate. Radio 4 keeps me company, although I get fed up with the muppet sounds of the previous day’s discussions in Parliament. Do they really know how stupid they all sound? And anyway, what happened to some ordinary grown-up discussions rather than 3rd form name-calling which seems to pass for debate these days?

The sun is rising as I pull into Ramsgate, and at the gate I realise I have forgotten my pass for the gate. Sigh.

Power up the computer, wait for Outlook to load the three day’s e mails. Pages and pages of the things appear. Better have a coffee. Better have another coffee.

The day passes.

And in the evening we head out to Mike’s for a Halloween BBQ. When asked it seemed like a good idea, but in reality it was the last thing either of us wanted to do; do something other than relaxing at home. Anyway, we arrive and the food is nearly ready, and the children are running around crazy upstairs, far too excited to eat. So, we have a drink, a burger and chat. One thing Mike’s house does have is a fine view over to the castle, which at night is wonderfully illuminated.

And that is it, we make our excuses, and after calling at the old folk’s place, we head home laden with milk and crumpets for a cuppa and supper. Outside the rain begins to fall and inside we are greeted by all three cats. Just as it should be.
