Each morning that dawns this month, seems like it is the last one of summer, yet the next day up comes the sun, maybe cooler than the day before, but the rising sun soons warms up the day and chases the clouds and chill away. Sunday was much the same, the sun rose at seven soon climbing int he clear blue sky and illuminating the east side of the house in warm light. Jools is up making coffee, so I get up, check the web and then settle down to watch the highlights of the previous day's games.
I sit on the sofa with the heating pumping hot water round the house, warming the house up nicely.
Bacon butties? Jools said yes.
Of course.
Soon the house is filled with the fine smells of grilled TSP, bread is buttered and more brews made.
Breakfast eaten, washed up, the football watched to the end, and before the forecasted cloud and cooler temperatures came along in the afternoon. And after the near success of snapping the Clouded Yellow the day before, I thought another visit to Temple Ewell was needed.
We arrive there just after half nine, which was still cool, so probably not the best time to be hunting butterflies, with if there were any about would still be roosting, but it was warming up minute on minute.
I walk in the large meadow, searching left and right for any sign of yellow butterflies on the wing, but see nothing. While I go up and down hunting for butterflies, JOols walks round the outside of the meadow, something like a mile round, and once we met up again, we walk up the long steep path to the upper meadow where the silver spotteds are seen. But again, none seen there either.
Indeed not much to be seen up on top of the downs, not even the show of eyebrights i was expecting.
The sun was warm enough to allow us to sit on a bank, facing the sun, and just soak up the rays. Sounds of Sunday morning drifts up from the village of Kearsney and Temple Ewell below, people are working in their allotments, whilst past us a series of walkers and their dogs go past..
We walk back down to the car, then drive back home. Whilst Jools works in the garden, I watch the Football League highlights, seeing as Norwich won again. And Ipswich managed to throw away a two goal lead to still be the only side in the top four divisions yet to win.
I wish I could say we filled the day and were productive, but thing is, we're away next week for 14 days, so just be home and enjoy the little bit of England we have here up on the cliffs.
I had made caprese for lunch, and a large amount of garlic bread, so much garlic bread that come six in the evening, we still were not hungry, or hungry enough for a full meal. So I make cheesy beans on toast, which hits the spot, especially when you add 20 or so turns of the pepper mill.
And that is it really, watch some TV, have a brew, and soon evening has gone, darkness falls and time for bed. Three more days at work, and then.....
