"Three word slogan"

Get Brexit Done.

Save the NHS.

Stop the boats.

In January, the Prime Minister presented a list of promises, the 5th one was stop the boats.

The small boats.

That cross the Channel when the weather is fine.

He added, no tricks, no evasions, you will judge my Governent on whether we have stopped the boats.

Reader, he has not stopped the boats.

Beacuse, dear reader, a border has two sides, and the UK can only police one side, relying on France to do te other. And as the UK decided not to renegotiate the Dublin Agreement, where migrants not granted asylum can be returned, meaning all who arrive have to stay here. But as it is clear Government policy not to process any applications now, numbers have spiralled.

Because of inspections and x-rays at ports either side of the Channel, those routes are now closed to migrants. And that there is now no legal way to claim asylum before arriving here, the only way to arrive here and so claim asylum is to use the people smugglers.

Take away the demand, take away the problem.

The Governent asked if the EU would consider talking about a returns policy, but the EU declned. In order for this to happen, the UK would have to have something to bargain with.

We have nothing

Cruelty to migrants whther they have a good case for asylum or not is the point. Many of the young men arriving here are the ones we abandoned when we fled Kabul two years back, thus breaking our promises to those who helped us.

The Government would send those heros to Rwanda too, if it could.

That it can't is because it would be against UK law, not because of some leftie lawyers, but because there was a case they could win. Even Thatcher said the first task of any GOvernment was to obey the law. To Johnson, Truss and now Sunak and their many shared Cabinet members, the law is an inconvenience. But the cases they lose is also for show, a part to play in their endless culture wars, where victims of war and genocide are the victims. Over and over again.
