Wednesday 6th September 2023

All summer I have complained about the strong wind, or lack of sunshine meaning I couldn't go out to chase butterflies.

Weeks went by with clouds and rain, along with "medium" strength winds to liven things up.

We even had stormed.

With names.

And now that the wind has stopped, the clouds cleared, its clearly perfect butterfly chasing weather, only because of the sunshine they don't rest much, and its hot.

Did I mention it is hot?

So warm and humid at night, we toss and turn, then the sun comes out, mist clears and the temperature skyrockets.

The wind, for want of calling something with the strength of a nun's fart a wind, but it is set in the south, and this week is bringing us migrant insects and sand in the atmosphere direct from the Sahara desert, causing sunrises and sunsets of spectacular nature.

Sahara sand Just sitting outside on the patio is too hot, at least until about four in the afternoon when the sun swung round behind the house and the seat is in deep shadow so cool.

So, with a migraine approaching mid-morning, I went out for a quick walk, and soon found myself very hot and bothered indeed.

The plan was to go across the fields to look for Clouded Yellows in the field of lucerne, but only one fleetingly seen, so I turned back before I had reached Fleet House.

Two hundred and forty nine And once back took an hour to cool down too.

At first I thought this was an Ivy Bee on some freshly opened Ivy flowers, but seems to be just a Hoverfly.

Swallows Just.

Back home I was so hot and sweaty it took an hour to cool down downing pints of iced squash.

And so back to work.

At least once work finished, I could pour an ice cold beer and sit with Scully in the cool shade.

Chimay Dorée Cheers.

And on top of that, there was no cooking or dinner to prepare, as Jools was bringing home a chippy tea on her way home from work.

Cod and chips Which was nice.

When it arrived, the batter of the fish was a bit soggy, the battered sausage Jools had was crispier so maybe that was the way to go.

Anyway, we cleared away and sat in the living room where it was cooler, saying at regular intervals how hot it still was.
