A New Year

In truth, the new Year did not feel that different from the old one. Not through drink, I did not feel very sharp at all, and so we did not go out at all. Not if you don't count the trips in the back garden to replenish the bird food.

We had breakfast, washed up, did three loads of washing, took the Christmas Tree down, put it in the attic, cleaned the kitchen, and had done all this by eleven so sat down to enjoy the new Year's Day concert from Vienna. The concert is the one thing that I still do from mad wife #1 days. She had always watched it back home, and i found I really enjoyed it; nothing like waltzes, ballet and flowers to bring in the new year. The concert ends with The Blue Danube and the Radinski March, two stunning pieces of music. The Blue Danube was accompanied this year from images from source to mouth of the river; how splendid?

I made scrambled eggs for dinner and a nice pot of fresh coffee, and that was about it really. All afternoon I messed around on Flickr whilst Jools did beading work for a friend who wants long necklaces for friends of hers. And watching the snow fall and be blown around. It didn't settle much, but looked amazing as we got near blizzard conditions.

And then at twenty to seven, the country stops to watch the final episode of Dr Who with David Tennant as the Doctor. I have watched very little of the re-imagined series, and this was a huge disappointment I have to say, with ideas stolen from Star Wars, Superman and all sorts of other Sci Fi fare. And then the final reel dragged on for what seemed like hours before the re-generation scene. Thing is we have known about for months, why drag it out so, we could have been making dinner all the time that was going on.

Then time for dinner; pan fried salmon and lentil dahl and lots of fresh vegetables; at Christmas it's easy to live off mince pies and sausage rolls.

And time enough for a hand of cribbage before heading to bed.
