Saturday 4th September 2010

Good afternoon; and because of the re-arranged European qualifiers, we have a Saturday afternoon with no international or top flight football. I say top flight, but that means the top two divisions. and international football, the games were last night, and there is more on Tuesday. and so, here we are, having a late lunch, some walnut bread, stinky cheese and beer or cider. And now we feel sleepy as the clock ticks towards three in the afternoon.

Work has been very quiet, there seems to be a lull in replies to my mails, but what replies I have there have been (already broken) promises of refund POs from a department of the company. Good job I wasn't holding my breath then. And this from a guy called Knud. It will come as no surprise that i have a slightly different name for the guy who has been promising POs since the beginning of July.

Thursday lunchtime, I walked into town to visit the bank to pay in a cheque; and as work was slow, wandered around, and on the way back after walking past a chippy, bought a tray of chips and sat beside the harbour with two seagulls thinking I was going to feed them.

Dinner for one!

yeah, right! Like that was going to happen. Gulls are reaching pest-level proportions, and feeding them will make even more of them come to visit Ramsgate, or Dover or even Lowestoft, where they can raid bins instead of doing gull-like things like hunting for fish.

So, it is the weekend, and this morning we went into Canterbury to buy some sheets. I kid you not, but if you're going to buy sheets, then why not in Canterbury? we leave early-ish and find a parking space. Wander into some local department stores only to find a fitted sheet costing over £20 in both.

We go to the Mayflower cafe for breakfast bagels and coffee before heading to Marks and Spencer for a sheet from their bargain range, and then spend the difference on walnut bread, mozzarella cheese and some kind of fruity dessert thing, and then walk back to the car through the thickening crowds.

Tomorrow we are train chasing, as a railtour is coming through Dover twice, and I have ideas for a couple of locations. Until then, though, back to the German beer. Bier.
