Snake oil Brexit

Another short post.

Although not much of substance has happened, another week has passed, and we can say that at the end of next month we will be halfway through the A50 process, and with the last 6 months given over to ratification, well, you can work out time is tight.

May is trying to act tough, to try to impress the Brexiteers, but as she can't sack them when they step out of line, really shows the shallowness of that strength.

One of the Sunday papers lead with a "plan" for the Brexiteers to sweep the current cabinet out of office, with Johnson and Gove in charge and JRM as Chancellor. As will all things Brexit, its all cunnings plans and no real detail to be concerned with, that is a mere trifle for others to worry about.

Its funny, that whenever a serious assessment is released showing what a mad idea Brexit idea is, the Brexiteers and their paymeasters complain, like any snake oil salesman when their magic cure all is actually scientifically tested.

May and her cabinet think they are negotiating with the EU, the reality is that she is trying to negotiate with her own party. The EU is looking on, horrified. And waiting for May to decide what she and Britain actually wants. And in the same way, any potential trade partners in a post-Brexit world, are also waiting to see what kind of relationship Britain has with the EU before agreeing anything. And although the GFA and the phase 1 agreement both demand an open border, May is talking about a border with as little as possible friction, whilst Amber Rudd talks about friction free trade. Like they're making it up as they go along.
