Sunday 3rd November 2013

It is wonderful when a quarter to four rolls round on Friday afternoon and it is time to pack up the computer and head back home. Although not before picking up Jools from Dover.

Should we go to Tesco in the evening or wait until the morning? In the morning won out. So, for dinner looking in the fridge I saw lots of vegetables: they get roasted along with half a bulb of garlic, then whizzed up to pour onto freshly cooked pasta. I cooked a couple of rolls of the potato bread, and washed down with the rest of the bottle of red left from last weekend. A great meal.

We chilled out in the evening, watching Autumnwatch on TV, which although is not demanding, is good enough and the film of our native animals is great.

Saturday.

And so up with the larks. Or not as I slept in to half seven. Time for a coffee before we head out to Tesco for the weekly shop. Only a few things needed, most of it seems to be beer and cider! This is because we have not brewed this autumn. For me, it was our friends not coming round to collect what they asked us to brew for them, and us being stuck with over 60 bottle of porter after Christmas. Anyway, I now have a few bottles of Old Crafty Hen, which will warm you up on any day no matter how cold it gets.

The Paddocks

Once home we have another coffee, with nice warm croissants to dunk too.

After breakfast, we don our wellies and head out for a walk, as the weather is pretty mild and not yet windy. We head along the path at the end of our road, past the piggies: or pig as this year's piglets are by now sausages, spare ribs and pork chops. The old sow is asleep under the trees, her sides moving with her breathing. She seems at peace.

In a rut

Through the glade, out the other side and instead of heading down the dip, we go on past the farm and up to Windy Ridge, walk through the wood and then back across the fields to Collingwood and then home. The views over the fields to the Channel are excellent, and the colours in the bright sunshine are spring-like vibrant. It would have been easy to sit inside all day, but a walk is never a waste of time or a wasted photographic opportunity!

Windy Ridge

And so to the afternoon and the horror show that was the footy. Norwich headed once more up to Mancland, and are royally thumped 7-0 by Citeh, in what was a spineless performance by Norwich. The hope of a safe mid-table finish seem a distant dream.

The path out of the wood

Chorizo hash for dinner, which was a fine way to end the day. And more red wine.....
