Sunday 5th March 2023

Sunday.

We had planned to go out for a walk. We had discussed where to go, Herne Bay was mentioned, but to get there and back in time to start cooking lunch was impossible.

As planned we lay in bed until seven, then up to have coffee, fruit and bacon butties.

We were going to go to the cliffs for a walk, but the keen north east wind made it seem quite uninviting, so we decided not to.

Jools made chocolate sundaes while I had a shower, and once dressed, it was downstairs to start preparing dinner.

Thursday it was Jen's birthday, so in celebration we had her over to have a roast dinner. I had half the beef left from Christmas, so no need to buy more, and had a arge bottle of stock for gravy. We got pigs in blankets, stuffing balls and lots of vegetables, I just had to do the cooking.

The beef went in the oven at twenty to eleven, seasoned with a dash of salt and lots of freshly ground pepper, on high at first, then turned down to cook until it was cooked, rare. Potatoes part-boiled. Mostly boiled, and the vegetables al prepared and ready to be cooked. This used to take Mum most of Sunday morning to do, it takes me not half an hour, really. Most goes in the stove-top steamer, and seems to take the same, about half an hour too cok.

Sixty five Jen arrives at one, just as the beef is done. I make gravy and put the puddings in the oven, bringing it all together at quarter to two.

Even if I say so myself, it was something of a triumph, and after that there would be no need to eat the rest of the day.

All put away in time to watch the big gae, Liverpool v Man Utd. An even opening 40 minutes, with Utd edging it, and then Liverpool scored and Utd's wheels came off. Liverpool knocked in six second half goals, and were a joy to watch. Uness you were a Utd fan, of course.

And that was it for the weekend, just the radio to listen to, and off to bed early.
