Like Douglas Adams did, let me remove any feeling of concern that in the tale I am about to share with you, neother Jools or her friend, Linda, were injured.
And like all Bank Holiday, the Easter one was marked by wind, rain and cool temperatures, so the balmy conditions of Sunday were soon forgotten.
We had a lay in, had coffee.
Then fruit, more coffee.
And bacon butties and another brew.
A friend of Jools's from school, Linda, was in town to visit her Mother, and was going to come and see Jools.
I'll pick you up, said Jools.
The plan had been to go for a walk somewhere, but the wind and driving rain made that impossible, so they came back here for a coffee and shelter while carry on talking.
Into the afternoon and well past lunchtime, Jools said she'd run Linda back, so I began to cook lunch.
15 minutes later, the phone went. I picked up, and I heard Jools say:
"I've not been in an accident befre, I don't know what to do"
She rang back, and indeed she'd had an accdent. A guy in a white BMW had gone round the roundabout at Whitfield in the wrong lane and too fast, lost control and rammed the car (another Beamer) in the outside lane, that then was pushed into our car. The white BMW did not stop. They guy in the other Beamer is an off duty policeman with a dash cam.
Jools wasn't at fault, of course.
But the car was undriveable.
So, she had to wait, the police moved it to a nearby car park, and Jen arrived to get Jools home. A few minutes later, the tow company called, so they had to go back down to supply them with the key.
At six, all excitement was done.
We have no car.
Jools arranged with Sean for hom to pick her up in the morning to go to work, but other than that, we're screwed.
We ate lunch so late it counted as dinner, so no supper needed.
Jools is bruised, nother more serious, but it could have been so much worse.
