The contempt of Brexit

And so it came to pass that DD was forced to admit that the 58 impact assessments that he had previously boasted about multi-faceted assessments actually did not exist, not in the form he had described.

Those who follow these words might then decide that he and his department is now in Contempt of the House. On that matter we shall see. But what would be worse, lying that these exist when they didn't, or embarking on Brexit and not conducting any assessments at all? I mean, how do you plan for obstacles when you don't know what they are?

The possibilities of these assessments are:

1. That they do not exist after all, and DD lied about them in previous Commons and committee answers, thus misleading the Houses. He should resign.
2. They do exist but are not worth the back of fag packets there are written on. In which case the responsible Minister, DD, should resign.

Of course, we know the answer to that, we would be where we are now; neck deep in chaos, with Ministers of the crown conducting their own foreign policy independent of that of the Prime Minister.

We have Pritti Patel going on holiday to Israel and having 12 meetings with Israeli Government officials without approval from either the Foreign and Commonwealth Office or the Minister. Or the Prime Minister. And then lied to the House about said visit, meaning that the PM was only aware last Friday, and the Ministry aware a day after her "holiday" ended. She also conducted an interview with The Guardian in which she lied on record. In response, the PM rewrote the Ministerial Code to allow her actions. So, conducting independent talks with a foreign government where suggestions were made to divert money from the foreign aid budget to help fund the illegal occupation in the "occupied territories". Impossible as Britain does not officially recognise those as Israeli, but as Palestinian in line with the 1947 agreements.

The Foreign Secretary being interviewed and telling either a lie, or making up details of a British citizen being held in Iran, by suggesting she had been visiting the country teaching journalism instead of the truth in taking her son so see her parents. This is likely to result in her being sentenced to 5 more years in prison, undoing 19 months hard work by her husband to get his wife free.

The First Secretary of State is under investigation for having "extreme" porn on his official computer, and in his defence has accused the, now retired, policeman of lying.

In normal times, these three events would have resulted in each of the mInisters resigning. Now we have a PM so weak she cannot sack anyone least the Party fall apart, and as we have seen time and time again in Brexit, Party comes before Country.
