Over the weekend, Michael Gove, Andrea Loathesome and the erstwhile Secretary of State for Health, Matt Hancock, all repeated the lie that EU citizens who use the NHS do so for free.
Even if they work in the UK legally.
Let's be clear here, anyone who works in the UK pays National Insurance at least, with taxes on top of that, if they earn enough, so the NI contributions pay for the NHS. Not only do they pay their NI contributions, many work in the NHS.
Even their children who access the NHS is such a small figure out of overall NHS budget, it barely registers. But nothing will stop the liars lying, blaming anyone else for their own policy failures.
Only the deliberate underfunding of the NHS is not a policy failure, its been a major policy triumph. A typical right wing ploy to underfund a state function as an excuse to privatise it. As I pointed out before, in 2009, the NHS enjoyed record satisfaction rating from patients. Not any more. And on the day damning evidence of the worst waiting time figures in the NHS ever recorded, the headlines were, and still are, taken by a non-sweating Duke of York, "Randy" Prince Andrew.
Bread and circuses?
And where was the challenges from the presenters and interviewers? Not to be seen or heard. The state of journalism in the UK right now is the lowest ever, and that is some low bar to get under.
