Nothing will change

COVID 19 was supposed to be a game changer. No longer would we take people and what they do for granted.

But talk is cheap.

Political talk especially so.

Yesterday, three Tory MPs, one a Whip and on a Health Minister, shared a doctored video via Twitter, of the Labour leader apparently saying the opposite he did.

The videos were were deleted, and one of the Twitter accounts was also deleted, but there were no words of apology, the lie was out there. And none of this was a resignation matter, as nothing is these day. Especially with the Liar in Chief in charge.

Talking of Johnson lying, turns out that his insistence that there would be no regulatory border in the Irish Sea was the lie we always knew it would be. New customs posts are to be built in three NI ports. Still no word on how these or anything else will work, but remember this means the UK single market has been broken, and this will happen with or without a negotiated trade deal by the end of the year.

The BBC's Political Editor has, meanwhile, been writing up the excuses for disestablishing the Civil Service, as the way Whitehall is set up no longer works in times of crisis. Apparently. Nothing to do with inaction for the best part of two months when the WHO had warned what was coming, or taking weeks off to finish a book or go on holiday. The Cabinet, full Cabinet, is isolated, and decisions being taken by an inner circle of Ministers are Advisors. They are not listening to any other advice other than what they want to hear, and there is minimum oversight.

The press, meanwhile, turned their attention onto teachers and their unions, demanding they go back to work and "be heroes". In other words, risk their lives. Once again the "we're all in this together" lie has died even quicker than thought. Why not trust the PM and Ministers as they have done such a good job with care homes, the NHS, PPE provision and testing people entering the country.

I hope this won't happen, but I fear that all is set with a second wave of infections coming, as on Wednesday millions of people went back to work, travelling on trains and buses, packed in. Not helped by the Transport Minister saying it is people's civic duty not to travel on public transport. But how else are people going to get into their city centre jobs> The PM will just say they did not use their common sense and absolve himself and the Government of blame.
