The next phase of Brexit

Today, EU citizens lost their automatic right to live in the UK. Also, anyone who was not born in the UK.

But as we know from Windrush, in the end anyone who is not considered "British" will be subject to attempted removal from the country.

The Home Office will act first and not ask questions.

People who have lived in the UK for decades, married to a Brit, paid taxes, NI, worked in the NHS or wherever, so or most will have to prove they have the right to live here, even though the UK Government knows this already. And in return, they will not get a piece of paper stating they can stay, just an electronic version.

And again from Windrish, we know that any monor vilation of a law will mark them down as a criminal and could strip any rights to live here they might have.

Remember, Johnson and Gove, as heads of Vote Leave, the official leave campaign and now the two most powerful politicians in the UK promised Brexit would not affect EU citizen's rights.

And very people in power, be that media, newspapers, politicans or anyone famous who could shed light on this unjustice have ignored this.

None of this is what most voted for, it is cruel and pointless, but that won't stop Patel removing people.

Meanwhile, the UK Government had "given up" on trying to negotiate betting rights for the City of London, post Brexit, and so financial services will just wither.

And Frost refuses to do anything about the creative arts as Brexit does not allow any kind of freedom of movement, not even for six months.

I am lost for words, and yet powerless to do anything, just document these events as they happen.

The EU has extended the grace period for sausages and cooked meats regulations into NI for a further three months. THis is good news, though telling the UK Government wouldn't do it for EU citizens: bangers before people. But, this is more can-kicking, as at some point, regulations will have to be enforced. All this has done is to reward Frost's refusal to accept the consequences of his negotiated deal, so he will do the same in other areas too.

In the end, a border will have to work between Britain and NI.

And finally, a court case brought by the DUP and others to try to get the NIP cancelled failed. With the judge noting that "...contentions on behalf of the applicants comparing Northern Ireland to a colony or the Vichy government in France under the Nazi regime during the Second World War are wide of the mark and unhelpful." and "In this regard, in passing, it is noted that this Agreement was actually voted for by the second applicant, Mr Habib, who now seeks to challenge the legality of the Agreement in these proceedings." (para 291)
