Sunday 5th November 2023

I woke up on Sunday morning at a minute past eight, which is practically afternoon by our standards.

Jools had gone off to the pool, so I woke to an empty house, or a house with four sleeping cats anyway.

I made coffee, and arsed about for half an hour until Jools came back, so we had more coffee and breakfast.

What to do then?

Well, apparently the founder of Saga Holidays likes to philanthropic in his home town, and one of his gifts is an indoor skatepark, climbing wall and boxing gym.

Three hundred and eight A nice looking place, but it is decorated at street level with glyphs in a Keith Haring style, so I suggested going over there, taking some shots and going for a walk.

A walk round Folkestone Which is what we did.

Jools went off looking for yarn, and I went to take shots, all before the town had really woken up, then making my way to the Old High Street where I hoped to meet with Jools.

A walk round Folkestone But she was already back at the car, so I laboured up the cobbled hill, met her at the car, and we set off for home, as we had run out of change for the parking meter.

So it goes.

Once home I made some roasted vegetables for lunches next week, then boil and roast potatoes to go with the beef and red wine pie we had bought.

A walk round Folkestone I was trying to get it done by one so I could watch the second half of the Norwich v Blackburn game, but after 15 minutes, City were 2-0 down, and a shambles.

A walk round Folkestone 3-0 in the second half, before Rovers had a player sent off, so for the last half hour we looked decent. But against ten men. Ended 3-1.

A walk round Folkestone And then the not-so supper Sunday, with Luton v Liverpool on second.

I have caught up on my church shots taken through September and October, so back to just posting shots taken day by day.

At about half five yesterday, just as it was getting dark, the aurora alert goes off, with the highest red alert, meaning aurora would be visible even this far south.

A walk round Folkestone Possibly.

The best place near here to look north is along the north Kent coast, and Reculver is the furthest from towns and light pollution.

So, a quick dash up to Sandwich, to Ramsgate then along the Thanet Way, and out to the coast at Reculver, where a few people had already gathered.

Looking north, a dark cloud was in the way, so we had to wait half an hour for the wind to sweep that eastwards, and then could we see anything?

Kent isn't as far south as you can get in England, but is close, so looking north once the cloud had cleared showed an area of light, though colours and form was impossible to make out. But on the camera, colour was clearly visible on the screen once a long exposure had been taken.

aurora The update at seven revealed the intensity had reduced by half, so we made our way back home.
