On Saturday, for some reason, the BBC is getting an actor to read Enoch Powell's "River of Blood" speech, which is about as racist as it is possible to get. The BBC says it features "great production". What they don't say is that it is full of racist bile.
Why, in 2018, does the BBC think this is a good idea?
In the 1950s and 60s, Britain has 100% employment. In fact labour was so short, my Mother was offered three jobs when she left school. She tried one, and when she didn't like it, just started a new one the next day. In order to shore up the economy, Britain called on the Empire, as it was then, to come to live in the homeland and work to keep the wheels of industry turning. Many thousands, then if not hundreds of thousands came. Most famous n the Windrush from the Caribbean.
People and families moved, fought racism, but made lives, worked, raised families and grew old in their adopted country, after being given right to residence. Sadly, the Home Office lost all records in 1971, and now many of that generation who have worked for, in some cases, 50 years here and now finding Britain classes them as illegal immigrants, and in some cases, people are being deported. Deported back to countries of their birth they have not visited for 50 years or more.
This is the action that our now PM, Mrs May, put into action when she was Home Secretary, and continues apace now. And EU citizens are being told the same, apply for new residence after Brexit. It'll be quick and simple. And all will be done. If Britain can't be trusted with the Windrush Generation, then why should EU citizens trust Britain now when lying is second nature to May, Johnson, Gove et al.
Britain is now more backward, inward looking, less trusting, less nice. Anyone who dies not look "British" or sound British runs the risk of being abused on the bus, in shops. Clips on Youtube are there to see.
This will be post-Brexit Britain, more racist, more hateful. And still blaming the EU and immigrants for everything.
