"wilful misrepresentation’"

One Monday evening, Liz Truss's team sent out an embargoed press release regarding her latest policy idea.

No one could report or comment on it until 22:30 so it would make the morning editions of the papers and breakfast TV.

It was a spectacularly stupid policy.

It meant that public sector workers be paid according to local economics. In short, those outside the SE of England would receive pay cuts.

While there is a cost of living crisis and inflation of 11%.

The press release said it would save £8.8 billion.

A pay cut of £3,000 on average for nurses, firemen, the police is not going to be a vote winner in the former "red wall" areas of northern England, and is more lvelling down that the flagship policy of levelling up.

Less than 12 hours after the policy could be reported, Truss abandoned it.

Stating the media had reported it with wilful misrepresentation.

But they hadn't.

It was all there in the press release. Local pay boards, estimated savings from pay cuts.

Truss had to state there would be no pay cuts.

No local pay boards.

She is now being backed by both the Express and Mail, an no reference to this awful mistake is made on today's front pages.

Make no mistake, this was an unforced error, and bodes poorly for the hope of ending the days of making policy on the hoof without thinking of the consequences. But then she claims to be the Johnson continuity candidate.

So, carry on lying and bullshitting.

I have said this cabinet are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, but they really are as studpid as they seem. Truss's only hope is to speak as little as possible so to avoid have o explain policies, deal with any questions as she just cannot think on her feet. PMQs is going to be fun.
