One of the delights of going away, is the memories that come to the fore in the days, weeks and months after you return.
Vin Santo is a sweet desert wine from Tuscany, that I was introduced to back on my first visit there in 2004.
You dip almond biscuits into it so to savour and sweeten the flavour.
It shouldn't work, but does.
This was our supper on Sunday evening, or mine. As Jools had coffee.
Transporting us to the back streets of Siena, and something sweet and boozy to round off dinner.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday.
I woke up with a touch of sciatica, and Jools had her painful heal. What a couple we made.
But we had drugs with first coffee of the day, and the pain and discomfort eased.
Nothing planned for the day, as rain was expected to sweep in from the west later, so we would take things easy.
We have fruit and coffee for breakfast, then sausage and bacon butties for elevenses, setting us up for the afternoon.
What the afternoon did bring was football, though in the case of Villa v Utd, nothing of much excitement, followed by Brighton v Spurs, which was far better, though a little too Spursey for Spurs, I fear. Brighton can from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
Rain did come, and so we closed the curtains early and had supper of cheese followed by Vin Santo, and so the weekend came to a fine, if quiet end.
