Thursday

And so the week gradually peters out. It seems odd, that now that the project is done, or all but, and we wait until we begin the next on in September, there is something of a pause. And coupled with the ongoing summer holidays in Denmark and elsewhere, there is only so much work you can create for yourself.

But then along comes cricket to fill up the day.

What is cricket? Well it is a game, so mad and pointless it could only have been invented by the Brits: takes 5 days to complete, at least 5 matches in a series. Dependent on good weather. Only 7 nations play the game. Oh, I could go on. But this summer, England play the old enemy, Australia. In a series called Ashes, so named because of some burnt wood at the end of one of the previous series. Don't ask. So, with England 2-1 in the 5 game series, and with the weight of history and expectations on their shoulders, the circus decamps to Nottingham for the 4th test. And England bowl Australia out for 60. The shortes first innings ever in test cricket. Something like 120 balls.

I have the radio show, Test Match Special on, as TMS is something of an institution, and yet I don't listen to it, as I know that if I did, nothing else would get done. But so it passed, I spent the afternoon listening to TMS as England rattled up the runs to be over 200 ahead by stumps.

And when she comes home, Jools has to listen to it as well, and says she enjoyed it, the terms, the facts and figures that must mean something. I cook chorizo hash for dinner, and get ready for the weekend road trip as I head home for a school reuinion. Not really thinking it is such a good idea now, but we shall see.

Regards cricket, you forgot to mention that half the time no one actually wins as it ends in a draw!

Or in England where it rains for 5 days. Then we all go home.
