Know your rights

Not sure how long this post will be, might be quite short.

Hooray!

Yesterday, the UK Government proposed offering up to 3 million Hong Kong nationals a route to UK citizenship after it appears the Chinese Government went back on promises made when the territory was handed back in 1997.

Chief among the complaints by the Foreign Secretary was the loss of rights for those 3 million Hong Kongese.

Well, Mr Raab, I have got news for you!

Just the day before, rights were removed from 67 million UK citizens to live and work in the 27 EU countries, contrary to what was promised in the referendum.

Many Government Ministers and MPs triumphantly Tweeted that the ending of free movement was a victory for the "voice of the people". But no one literally voted for the removal of their own rights. Tht the stopping of free movement not only applied to EU citizens coming into this country, but also to UK citizens living, working, studying, retiring to any of the EU27.

That many UK retirees in places like Spain and France voted for Brexit will mean that they will only be able to spend a limited time each year in their chalets and villas, and will need health insurance, and maybe their pensions can be paid into a local bank account.

But everyone knew what they were voting for.

Oh yes.

Turkeys do still vote for Christmas. And celebrate it too.
