The (presidential) seal of approval

Donald J Trump, the sometime president of the USA, broke diplomatic protocol yesterday back saying he thought that Boris Johnson would make a very good PM.

He did also speak well of Jeremy Hunt too.

With Brexit and Trump, all rules are now off. What used to be clear as to what could and couldn't be said or done is now swept away, with little thought, if any, of the consequences.

Imagine if Tusk or Barnier had backed a contender so openly, what would the right wing press say then? But Trump; nothing is said.

Whether suck public support from Trump will improve or harm Johnson's or Hunt's chances, remains to be seen.

That Trump thinks he is well liked in the UK, he likes the UK, apparently, maybe which is why he keeps wanting to build golf course all over it. But he might be in for a shock with demonstrations that are planned to take place during his visit.

I think there are now 12 runners for the Tory Leadership, with another week before nominations close.

And then the "beauty" contest begins.

Remember that all the while the clock is ticking on Brexit, no plans are being made for anything, the EU has dismantled it's negotiating team, the legal system is close to collapse, there is a dire shortgae of doctors and nurses in the NHS, more factories and shops announced closures, and on and on and on. But the country will spend up to eight weeks on electing a new Tory leader, or the party will. Nothing else will be done, espcially as following that, Parliament goes on a multi-week recess for the summer, then a couple of weeks back before the conference season begins.

Then we're into October again.

And almost out of time.
