Another COVID disaster

Well, two really.

Papers emerged yesterday showing how the Chancellor scuppered a firebreak lockdown in September, which is what Chris Whitty and other leaders had strongly recommended.

The newspaper that got the leak suggests between 9 and 12,000 people died as a result.

These numbers are just so huge. And this number goes onto the 20,000 deaths caused back in March for not locking down eary enough (see a pattern here?) and 20,000 deaths in care homes by shipping out patients there from hospitals without any COVID tests. Several hundred NHS, Care workers and essential staff died as a result of just doing their jobs.

And yesterday the same people who recommended the September lockdown are now saying that there should be no loosening of restrictions for Christmas. The US saw a massive spike in cases after the Thanksgiving season and a thrid wave is now joining with the combimed 1st and 2nd to produce over a quarter of a million new cases each day. A million new cases every for days, the pandemic is actually accelerating still in the US.

That is the future that awaits us in January if we allow ourselves to be seduced by thoughts of a tradional family Christmas.

Of course, people who follow other religions had their biggest celebrations ignored and festivities had to be cancelled, to pretend that a Christian festival is more important than those of other faiths would be a very poor signal to put out.

But its already planned, so what can we do.....

Yesterday, there were 18,447 new cases of VOVID in the UK taking the total to 1,850,000 infections, and there were 144 deaths accrding the the Government's narrow definition, bringing a total of deaths to 64,170.
