The week in COVID

Brexit has returned to dominate the headlines this week, pushing the daily horrifying daily death and infection totals to mere footnotes.

Yesterday, 9th December, there were 14. 718 new cases and 599 deaths as they spiked again. And there has been a total of 1.7 million cases here in the UK in total.

Next week sees the first fortnightly review of cases and stats from around the country, and if there is any logic in what the Government and PHE does, then London will be put into tier 3. Some boroughs in London rival the worse areas of Kent, and yet whilst we are locked down with pubs and restaurants closed, they are still open in London.

The best part of this week was the start of the vaccination program, where some elederly people were first to be given the jab. This is the turning point, but if this really is a war, then this was D-Day, not VE day. There are many long dark months ahead. And the news was hijacked by nationalists in twisting the story into British triumph rather than one of international cooperation which it actually was.

I saw a tweet yesterday from an American ER doctor who reported one of the people in his car had taken part in a Thanksgiving meal with 21 other family members on November 24th, indoors of course. The next day, one of the 22 tested positive, a week later they all were, and now three are in the ER. Johnson is planning on relaxing the lockown rules for 5 days over Christmas, if he does, this will be the story in the UK by the end of January.

If you love someone, don't kill them with Christmas.
