On COVID

The month ahead in COVID is already set.

It will get worse, once the infections, hospitalisations and deaths from the Christmas bubbles filter though.

People who will die at the end of January are already infected.

The maths and spread of a virus such as COVID have been understood for decades, no amount of lockdown will slow the spread by much.

Having seen the Government lock down too late and for not long enough in March and April, then make the same mistake from Spetember through November, and again in December, I have no desire to record the infections and deaths.

Today I stop, the death is so grim.

It emerged yesterday that in finding an answer to the question as to why there is so little film from inside ICUs of the fight doctors and nurses are undertaking, as tat Heath Trusts are refusing requests from TV and other media companies. The death, the struggle and the despair goes unrecorded.

But goes on.

And now there are several vaccines, there is a chance to save millions of lives.

You would think.

But each company owns the IPR for each vaccine, will not allow generic versions to be made under licence or out out fo, and the First World have bought the total first year's supply. So the poorest in the world will have to fight through all of 2021 before there is any chance of getting a vaccine, while Big Pharma makes billions.

And the very people who screwed up the COVID response, Brexit, PPE, track and trace and so on and on are now being entrusted with rolling out the vaccination program.

The only question is how Johnson and co will screw this up.

The US are vaccinatine a million people a week, at this rate it will be nearly four years before the whole country reaches the percentage needed for herd immunity. I am guessing it is pretty much the same for here too.

In the UK tens of thousands of people would be alive if we had voted in a compitent Government last year. In the US it is hundreds of thousands, as the first wave has joined with the second and third to creave a tidal wave of death and misery, where those in Washington who spent the year denying the virus put themselves at the front of the line for the vaccine.

The great and good get vaccines, tax breaks and the ear of those in power, the rest of us just struggle and maybe die.

When will we revolt?

THis is the Jelltex COVID blog also singing off.

Hapy New Year. Stay safe, if you can.
