The Brexit bubble

Because I have discovered through trial and error, who to follow and wo not to on Twitter, I have a better understanding than many in my position to understand the realities of Brexit, and that it is not going swimmingly well. Nor did I expect it to.

In fact, were it not for the high profile campaigns regarding Scottish and West Country fishing exports to the EU and the devastating effect the TCA has on artists and the media campaign to highlight that, many ordinary people, reading the papers or scanning the BBC website, you wouldn't think there is a thing to be concerned about.

On top of those, I know that fresh vegetables coming into the UK and fresh meat going to the EU are suffering badly, getting a package sent to the EU or NI is difficult and becoming very expensive for the sender and the person receiving it, billions of pounds and thousands of jobs have left the City of London already this year, and with each problem the Government is using more of its working bandwidth and having to offer more and more fnancial support for an issue that apparently had no downsides and would deliver a Brexit bonus of at least £350,000,000 a week.

The reality is, as it stands, Great Britain is out of every EU and European trade organisation, and will find it difficult to trade with any of them because of tariff and non-tariff barriers that will be imposed. We can see from the diagram below, that all are joined to a greater or lesser extent, leaving Britain out in the cold. I say Britain and not UK as NI is in the SM for many goods and subject to EU regulations.

THis is not sustainable in the long term, on common sense or economic grounds, but with each day that it does continue, the economy hemorrhages money and jobs.

The lastest act of stupidity is the UK not gving the EU ambassador full diplomatic status, going against what 142 other countries have done, and against a treaty, which the UK signed as an EU member, stating just that.

The US reversed its great acto of stupidity of 2016 yesterday, but the UK just goes on being dumber and dumber.
