At the crossroads

For the first time in years, Labour leads the Conservatives in the polls.

Polls are temporary, and that may change next week, but the stench of corruption at the moment is overpowering. That the Times, Mail and Express are piling on seems to suggest a change in the air.

We hope so.

But even if Johnson were to be replaced, it is more than likely that someone from his Cabinet Star Chamber would replace him. Who would you rather have; Johnson, Gover, Raab, JRM?

No real choice.

This is a Government of slogans and statements, when you delve down into what comes out of them, its almost nothing. Tkae the shortage of tanker drivers, despite the Government's statements about addressing the issue, just 9 new drivers have been recruited across the four nations, not that this is such a problem in NI, of course.

It seems the Government's only genuine policy is trade war with the EU. That he was elected to "get Brexit done", because as a nation we had had enough. Quite how the former red wall areas will react to the entire Brexit process being relitigated.

In the end, it might be external factors by the US and others that convince Johnson, for now, not to open a trade war, but if it is a fight for his political life, then a trade war plays well with the ERG and the elderly core party membership.

However, in the Express, a poll revealled that a majority of those polled, 56%, supported rejoining the EU. And much higher numbers in the lower age groups.

One hopes that those responsible will be held to account, that we, as a country, remember the lies told, and the reality delivered. Now, Johnson wants to do it all again from the start.

Sigh.

Indications is the EU will react in the strongest terms to any action under article 16, in which case, rather than can-kicking, reality can be faced.
