The neverending Brexit

It is important to point out at his point, that even if, against the odds, a deal on trade and all the other issues including the NI/Irish Border, can be done, then it will only be temporary, as regulations and rules are ever-evolving, and although at some point Brexit in some form or another is agreed, there will always be new EU, or UK rules, regulations or tariffs, then these will have to be negotiated.

As has been pointed out today, Brexit is not an event, but a process, and for all intents and purposes, it is a process that will never end, as you get to a do, plan, test act process, you just start on the next revolution, just like continual improvement (one for quality geeks, there), it will never, ever end. Just things will either become more or less complicated, but there will be negotiations, talks and agreements and always something new to start the whole process again. This will take time, resources and time. And will only make trade more inefficient, costly and prohibitive.

But the Brexiteers do not know or car or both. Just stop messing about and make Brexit happen, damn them and their tariffs.

Lord Lawson, arch Brexiteer Peer has now applied for French residency to keep his rights in the EU. You really could not make any of this up.

And tonight, the 75 year old man-baby announced the US was imposing tariffs on a range of metals from the EU, Canada and Mexico. On a whim, not reason, just because it was probably something eh heard on Fox and Friends. As part of the EU, UK can help retaliate, impose our own sanctions, although this means a trade war, but then that’s what 45 wants as he thinks it’ll be good for the US.

And this is whom the Brexiteers want us to trust and sees as our most reliable trading partner of the future.

The US – Canada border is several thousand miles long, and yet has just 119 crossing points, I learned today. The NI/Irish border is 499km long, and has at least 214 crossing points. Control of those, especially where a road meanders between the two is impossible. A farmer on TV points to his flock of sheep, split into two; see those ewes there, they’re in Northern Ireland, the others are in the Republic. You can’t control this, never has been done.

And yet idiots like Iain Duncan Smith says there is a simple solution, rather than the simple thing here is IDS himself. Don’t believe people who offer no real solutions, or solutions that both the Irish Republic and the EU have to agree to, and be in line with WTO rules, but these are a mere trifle to IDS and JRM. But the reality is closing in.

The choice is simple: the border for goods, services, people and finance will either be on the NI/Irish border or between the island of Ireland and Britain. Both are unacceptable and will bring the Government down but May has to choose one.
