Normalised

This is the reality behind Johnson's "living with COVID", yesterday, 104 people died from it.

That is seven more than who died at Hillsborough.

It is a good metric against which to measure the media footprint COVID now has, when the BBC has stopped pretty much from reporting daily figures.

Two sigle decker buses full of people dying every day is now the new normal.

I am still shocked to see packed football stadiums of fans hugging and shouting, celebrating goals, when on the same day, 104 people died and 32,058 people recorded fresh infections.

A Radio 6 DJ yesterday Tweeted that on the train he was travelling on in the north west of England, he was the only one wearing a mask.

Figures of infections are now showing a 10% rolling daily increase, hospitalisations are showing a 6.6% increase and deaths, now on a daily basis near or over a hundred a day are increasing 14%.

We have all suffered a lot, but to give up now will let in new and deadlier variants, more transmissible than before.

We are not over this yet, and until the world is vaccinated at least twice, nor is humanity.

Meanwhile, various right wing commentators are attacking New Zealand's decision to impose lockdown after a small number of cases; "mask wearers and New Zealanders languish in prison while the rest of us are free", so says Rod Liddle in the once paper of record, The Times.

Because thinking every life is worth saving is not worth the effort.

Again, I have no words.
