Saturday 1st October 2016

With the turning of another page of the calendar, comes the changing of the seasons, and a real change in the weather. We were due a proper soaking at some point during the day, so doing anything outside would mean dodging the showers. And it was chilly.

Maybe it would warm up when the sun rose? And then again.

October At first, we had a bright but cool morning. We sat on the patio to admire the view before it changes, and soak up the sight of the low sun shining through the leaves and petals of the flowers still doing well. Above us, clouds began to race across the sky.

The "before" shot After a week away, I really did not feel like doing much, and being an adult, meant I did not ahve to. Although Jools would liked to have had me tag along when she ordered her cabin for the back garden. But instead she called Jen and so the two of them went at half ten. I stayed at home, edited shots, listened to the radio, and made a half batch of short cakes. Shouldn't have done, but we had the ingredients, and what the hell?

Soon after Jools has left, the dark clouds gather, and after a single rumble of thunder, the heavens open and the rain comes hammering down. Once again falling so hard it seems like it is mist outside. Both Mulder and Molly come in in various stages of being soaked. Molly wants brushing, food and a cuddle. She gets a cuddle even if she wants it or not, and rubbing her shoulders makes her purr soon enough. I know how to treat a lady. Cat.

Here comes the rain The football begins at half twelve, the radio burbles away in the bakground. Jools comes home just as the cakes come out of the oven, so after making a brew we sit down to eat the two largest cakes, and very well they go down too.

Liverpool beat Swansea, Chelsea beat hull, and I can listen without worrying, as City don't kick off until half five. When they do we take the lead in the first half against Newcastle, scoring in the 3rd minute. Midway though the 2nd, Robbie Brady scores one of the goals of the season. But it wouldn't be Norwich without making their fans fret, as 20 minutes from time Wolves score, so City have to cling on to claim only our 2nd win there. Phew.

It is dark outside, and getting so cool inside, I break and put the heating on. The pipes and radiators groan and creak as they push water round for the first time in half a year.

A lazy day for sure, but a much needed one. And Jools has her cabin ordered, and the work in the garden starts on Thursday.
