More shifting sands

As we near the three week to go mark, some on the headbanging side of Brexit are shifting towards accepting there needs to be an extension to the A50 process.

Others see this as the first step in either watering down Brexit, or the abandonment of it altogether. And they may be right,

But as it becomes clearer that Brexit no is not about party politics, in the usual sense that Tories will always vote for May and Labou against it, but there is a significant part of each party now that will vote against the leadership and suffer no consequences, how this will shake down once, or if, Brexit happens remains to be seen.

But as the sands of time run out, businesses are having to second guess what the situation will be in three and a half weeks. For myself, I have bought and International Driving Permit, but that is not enough, as depending on what kind of Brexit there is, I could need a work visa for all of the EU or for each country I want to work in.

Inporters from the far east are having to guess what the customs situation will be when their shipments that have already left will be when they arrive, and the possibility that good they then wanted to sell onto customers in the EU might be blocked from doing so.

It is also reported that UK manufacturers have stockpiled supplies in record amounts in case of no deal, so much so that warehousing space is reported to be running out. Chilled and cold storage even more so.

So, Brexit is real, its effects have real costs to UK businesses and someone is having to pay, and in the end that will be customers. Us.
