Rearranging deckchairs on HMS Brexit

Yesterday, Johnson held a mini Cabinet reshuffle.

Not that it matters, the Cabinet was and still is, probably of the lowest talent and braincell on record. And that's with more Ministers attending Cabinet than ever before.

Nearly six years on from the referendum, JRM has been made Minister of Brexit Oportunities. Such oportunities should have been identidied six years ago, not 14 months after economic Brexit.

For this job, JRM will be paid over £70,000 on top of what he receives as an MP, and doubles the bonus he had for being Leader of the House.

A Government report today revealed the only apparent benefit from Brexit is more red tape and greater delays.

And my local MP says delays are not Brexit-related, but because of EU red tape. She also suggests road building in the town would help. Well, Nat, I live here, and there is no road building that could fix the issue of two roads to the port meeting at the bottom of Jubilee Way. Reopening Ramsgate or Folkestone might help.

There is no clear cut reply as to whether the queues seen are Brexit related. As they are not as bad as those seen in previous years, but are forming on greatly reduced flow rates, which is worrying. Back in 2020, we saw how French customs testing out their new protocols on exisiting flows back then created queues to Hythe in a single morning.

Reduced traffic flows, and trucks waiting at the inland border facility in Ashford and at warehouses are helping hide the real delays.
