The power of Brexit

During the protracted prologue of Brexit, I pondered the question of why do those with the best education inherited money could by, support Brext so much when it was clear even to me, how much damage it would do to the country, the economy and the people.

Maybe, I said, it was about claiming power.

Since Brexit has happened, we have seen the Governemnt, aka the Executive, try to restrict challenges to their decisions more and more, be it from the media, the POlice, the Judiciary, Legal Aid, Freedom of Infromation, bypassing Parliament whenever possible.

With Partygate we can see now that under Johnson, the Executive doesn't think all laws and guidance applies to them.

At least Thatcher believed that the Government should obey the laws it makes.

Not Johnson.

Partygaye has shown that over 20 months, up to 16 gatherings took place, the first one less than two months on from the first lockdown, and carried on. People have said on the record that they felt unable to speak out even though they knew it was wrong.

The culture is set by Government and the Prime Minister, and that filters down.

Johnson said he will change.

He won't.

He's got where he has now by lying and thinking the rules don't apply, he's not going to change.

The Conservative Party, or at least enough of it, are happy with his lying and law breaking and are willing to overlook it.

Until they and the electorate care enough about the truth and abiding by the rule of law, its not going to change. We should worry, however, what this Executive will do with the power they are now trying to claim.

It won't be easy to prise it out of their stone cold hands.
