"Economically illiterate"

Yesterday, HM Government leaked it's plans for the rights of EU Nations up to 29th March 2019 and then beyond. And has put all Europeans in one of two camps; low skilled and high skilled.

Low skilled EU citizens will be allowed a work visa lasting up to two years, and skilled workers up to 5 years, but the process will be as difficult as possible, and even interviews for jobs will have to have taken place before they travel to live here.

That "low skilled" people would want to travel and work here with no prospect of ever being allowed to settle is madness. And with "High Skilled" workers having 27 other EU countries to live and work here, why they would want to come to a country that clearly does not want them is another matter.

Many sectors of the economy reply on large numbers of low skilled immigration: farming, health, elderly care, and the service industries to name but four, and these rules, if carried out would decimate these industries, with food going unpicked, lattes being unmade, and left to families to wipe their elderly relative's backsides.

If there was a shred of evidence that any this was worthwhile or based on facts, that limiting immigration would create more jobs for Brits, then it has yet to be published. What we can say is that people who come here to work, pay their taxes, rent houses and flats and do the jobs most people would not want to at a wage we most certainly wouldn't. But things are changing, Europeans are not cming, net migration is already plummeting, and food has been left in the ground this summer.

National politics has been taken over by jingoism and xenophobia, and as well as being nasty, is making the country a laughing stock. But of course, whatever we propose to do to EU Nationals, the EU with do to UK nationals living abroad; so much for the promise that Brexit would not change anything. Just another broken vow to go with the rest of the lies that were spun. I am sickened as to what this country now stands for, tiny minded, spiteful, petty. But then there will be many years to reflect on this, if Brexit happens and we crash out of the EU without a deal. Lorries will be parked up from the bottom of Jubilee Way in Dover to Westminster and beyond, and the jungle of red tape from both sides stifles trade and increases costs. Remember, this was supposed to be about taking control. The reality is anything but.

But, reality will get in the way of Brexit La La Land; the Irish Border, the Divorce Bill and Citizens rights all have to be agreed, or movement on them so that the EU will consider starting parallel trade talks. That ain't going to happen unless there is a change, and listening to PMQs yesterday, the Conservative Party are deluding themselves into thinking they are doing the people's will. When all it is is a massive power grab by the electorate, enabling ministers to create or repeal acts and SIs at will, with no recourse. So, claiming Parliamentary control really meant giving it straight to ministers.
