The Brexit endgame update

A few hours on, and a series of unusually coordinated Tweets were released by senior Conservative MPs and Ministers suggesting JRM and other members of the ERG might shut up and let the PM do her job.

It seems she is moving, slowly towards a close relationship with the EU, because that does less damage to the economy and country, and will try to secure this over next weekend with her band of ministers.

There will be cried of "betrayal", and as time goes on as the compromises get ever more substantial, those cries will be meaningless.

The ERG could bring the Government down, but then that could reopen the basic question of what Brexit is, and certainly there is no appetite for JRM as either leader or PM.

However, in the next few weeks, May has to find a solution to the NI?Irish border issue, that:

- which resolves the Irish border issue;
- keeps her Tory and DUP majority intact; and
- which is acceptable to EU27.

It will be an interesting few weeks, but remember all this has to be done and dusted by the end of September.
