I doubted whether the queues on the M20 were all down to Brexit. At one point last week there were just two working ferries out of the port due to an accident and scheduled maintenance as well as the three P&O shops being out.
But this weekend I can confirm there were no lorries queuing in the port or on the A20 coming into the town, or at junction 11A to the Tunnel.
All queues are on the M20 for Operation (Super) Brock, where there are 5 lanes of stationary lorries waiting for document clearance to go to the port.
Indeed lorries did arrive, one at a time, as they must have had clearance to board.
Jubilee Way is also closed to stop lorries taking a shortcut to the port, this is closed to all traffic.
We drove to Samphire Hoe, and no queuing lorries seen along Townwall Street or on the A20 at Ayecliff.
Which means all queues are down to document checks, and trucks being held on the M20 between Maidstone and Ashford. So bad are the queues, that they are now using the coastbound two lanes of the contraflow for additional lines of trucks, forcing all non commercial port traffic to use the A2/M2, and with roadworks on the rounabout at the end of the motorway, huge queues buld up there too.
Reports from drivers say there are no such queues at the Calais side to come into the UK, as there are no checks to get in, as yet.
