Lessons not learned. Or learnt.

Yesterday, Johnson attended a press conference where he refused to rule out further measures in case infections, hospitalisations and deaths continued to rise. There were warnings of lockdowns, masks and COVID passports.

The Mail isn't impressed: "Back to panic stations" it blasts.

But The Express leads: "Mr Sensible"

The others, somewhere inbetween.

Truth is that Johnson and his Government has pissed the summer away, assuming, again, that the worst is over and a rush to get back to "normal".

Some of us still look at the daily figures, and with the input of the results of schools and universities returning with all mitigations removed, there is almost certain to be another wave.

"Protect the NHS" is the mantra. Another three word slogan, which is as much as Johnson has offered in over 18 months. The best protection of the NHS would be to stop infections in the first place, stop that and numbers needing hospitalisations would drop, thus reducing the pressure on what's left of the NHS.

But the Government has failed in the previous two, or is it three, waves, failing to learn what went right and what went wrong. There wasn't time, we were told last year as deaths all but had stopped and infections dropped away to a tenth of what they are now. Could have been done this year too, but they opened the pubs instead.

Increaded ventilation, screening and other social distancing along with masks and regular hand washing all could have been tested and ready to roll out when the schools did reopen, the schools were even closed for six weeks, but like schoolchildren, the Government went on holiday, literally.

So, its as though the last 18 months didn't happen, 134,446 or 157,669 who have died, depnding on which metric you use, or the excess death rate which I am sure is pushing 200,000 were all in vain, and thousands more will die, and many more will suffer long COVID, draining the NHS of money and resources for years to come, just because the PM wanted to keep the Conservative party united, as best as it can.

John Hopkins Universtiy has 4,649,854 who have died, globally, from COVID, they are the most reliable tracker of global COVID data, deaths will continue to rise as most of the third world is unvaccinated, and the rest who are greedy and careless will probably allow a new vaccine resistant strain to emerge. Proobably.
