We've lost control

There are very strong indications that the UK will delay, indefinitely, import controls on animal based goods from the EU.

Remember, Brexit was about taking back control, this would mean giving up on any control at all, until further notice.

The reason is two fold:

One, there was really no point as we could reply on UK goods to be of a required standard,

And two, the UK despite wanting Brexit, just wasn't prepared for the infrastructre needed to carry out the controls Johnson's hard Brexit required.

As always, no plan behind the policy.

I am always reminded by something I read last years:

Any Government competent to deliver Brexit, wouldn't.

Meanwhile, with warnings of shortages from this from fresh turkeys to toys, the Department of Transport is considering removing two elements from the C+E drivers test, not only that, not needing to have already passed a cat C test either. The removal of the reversing element of the test and the "5th wheel" element, where the trailer is disconnected and reconnected, are the two most important and safety critical part of being a lorry driver.

This, clearly, won't improve road safety, and the thought of disconnected tralier untils hurtling into other traffic on our highways and byways is a worrying one. But anything is better than dealing with the root cause of the driver shortage and allow EU driver back in the country to work, if any of them is willing to come over after Brexiteers and the Government making it clear they're not wanted.

Which makes the sucess of Emma Raducanu at the US Open all the more remarkable, and fun to see the Mail and Express tying themselves in logical knots by demonising immigrants on one hand, yet triumphing her victories on her way to the titel despite her being Canadian born to Romanian immigrants.
