The death of Conservatism

The "one nation" Conservative Party is dead.

It has been ill for some time, but yesterday, in its death throws we saw it's death mask.

THis Government has inflicted on its people, the highest tax burden in peacetime, with a vague idea about supporting social care and the NHS. There are no actual plans for this, just, as ever, slogans.

To show how empty the policy larder is, you only have to look and see that last week, the Government redefined what a "new" hospital was, so a political promise could be said to being kept. A new wing of a hospital, or a new building, is to be defined as a "new hospital" so that at some point in the future, the Heath Secretary or PM can say that 40 new hospitals were built.

Which wasn't.

The admission came this week that the "nightingale hospitals" were a triumph, in their setting up, but then came the admission that there just wasn't any staff to operate them, so most became white elephants.

This morning, headlines are on migrants crossing the Channel, because hiking taxes on the poor to pay for rich folk's care isn't a good look, but as ever, there is no plan, other than turning boats back at the 12 mile limit of UK waters. Under international law, I'm not sure this is legal, and also I don't know if the RNLI under its rules can turn a boat in distress away. But headlines today win over even over the lives of the poorest most deparite people. When there is no legal route into the UK, they will use illegal ones. Patel "needs" migrants, to be seen to be acting tough.

The Conservative Party was once the party of business, under the Johnson it is the part of FUCK BUISNESS.

The party of law and order has slashed spending on the police for a decade, reduced finding for the crminal justice system until it is on the point of collapse, but still makes policy statements on being tough on criminals, even if there isn't enough courts or court time for most ever to get to trial, thus denying the accused and the victims justice. Theft already carries a possible term of seven years, theft of a pet is theft, so someone convicted of the theft of a family pet can already receive seven years in prison. But the Government makes a statement about creating a "new" offece with a seven year tariff.

I mean, they're even really trying.

And finally, as in the US, this Conservative (Republican) Party, is layng the groundwork for permenent minority rule, with it to become impossible for it ever to lose an election with the gutting of the Electoral Commission, gerrymandering boundary changes on top of the limiting of scrutiny or challenge through FoI, Judicial Review and limiting the days Parliament actually spends debating GOvernment business, thats even before you take into account that Ministers are now addicted to using SI to sidestep Parliament altogether.

With COVID and now this tax change, the redistribution of wealth upwards to the richest 10% goes on, and almost uncommented on. The poor will pay, but all will benefit, so said Alexander Boris de Piffel Johnson on Monday.
