Your weekend Brexit

One if the biggest mistakes regarding Brexit is that it is an event, and that event will take place on 29th March 2019, and then, after that, whatever happens, happens. In fact, Brexit is not an event, it is a process, and a process that will never end.

Before Brexit, the EU did our dealing for us, one of 28 countries, and one of which we could put forward our views and interests. Post Brexit day, instead of being 1 of 28, we will be one of 160, and we will have negotiatiate with many of those 160 other countries the terms under which as a country, the UK and it's businesses will continue to trade under.

But even once the relationship with the EU and the WTO and other 160 member countries are sorted out, things change, there are new rules, regulations that UK would have to follow, and this goes on forever. That up to now the EU has done this for us, doesn't mean it will stop once we leave, it will become the UK's responsibility, and the responsibility of people like Liam Fox, God help us, or whoever succeeds him. Trade negotiations with the EU and other countries is not something that has a beginning and an end, it just goes back to the start again.

Our Rob or Us.

(red Dwarf joke, there.)

Ouroboros.

And all this will take time, money and resources. So rather than saving the UK money, it will cost us more. Much more to stand still, on worse terms than we were on whilst in the EU.

The Sunday Times lead with the story that May has done a "secret" deal with the EU to get the "deal". Those of you who read these posts will know that the EU want three simple things, and those three things tied up legally so no UK Government could roll them back.

Further more, in order for there to be no hard border on the Irish border, then, well you know, the choices are clear but stark. Beware of any headlines claiming that things are too good to be true, because they will be. I read a wonderful analogy this morning, in the DDR there was an expression; "they pretend to pay us, so we pretend to work". There will be claims of a "deal" with no backstop, but it will be there, however it is packaged, and it will be legally watertight. May might say and even believe otherwise, but you know, and I know.

Today, in an odd decision by the BBC they hosted an interview with Aron Banks about the fact he was under investigation by the NCA. Odd because clearly this is an active investigation, and interviewing the person under investigation about what he is being investigated for, could that prejudice a trial or even charge? That he wriggled and squirmed, slandered a journalist from the Observer whose work has done more than any one else to uncover the trial of dirty money and lies.

The trial of dirty money and illegal targeted advertising leads to Farrage, Wikileaks, Trump and Russia, and the fact that billionaires colluding with foreign powers could undermine our democracies for good, that voting machines can be hacked, what chance does the average person stand, when the rich when they have us blaming immigrants for wanting a piece of the tiny slice we have, rather than demand a larger portion from the billionaires who squirrel their fortunes away from the reach of our taxmen.

It is cold comfort to hear him saying had he had know the demons the referendum unleashed we would have been better of remaining. Like that's a revelation....
