Constitutionally constipated

Alexander Boris de Piffel Johnson has refused to resign.

Depate there being 36 resignations from his Government yesterday, and the party Whips suggesting just 65 MPs would now vote for hom in a second vote of confidence.

Because, it seems, the Conservative Party has decided that it has changed its mind in the two weeks since the last vote and ants to vote differently. Democracy is literally being able to change your mind, so if the 1922 committee can change its mind, so can Scotland?

Anyway.

Johnosn is of the misguided belief that 14,000,000 voted for him in the 2019 election, when the fact is, only 26,ooo did in the constituency he was elected from. If anything, voters voted for their local candidate and the Conservative Party, and if the Party decides to change the leader mid-term, then they can.

Johnson is of the deluded belief that the country could not cope without his dear leadership

. He has so few Ministers now, his Government cannot function. He has no majority in The House so any law cannot be passed without support from the opposition benches.

The role of Prime Minister is poorly described in the constitution, it is rather a made up role, and the PM is whoever has "the confiedence of the house", if The House can show it has confidence in another leader, any leader, not even an MP, the Queen could appoint that person, and Johnson will, by effect of THe Crown, cease to be PM.

But this is constitutional crisis territory. And as DAG said, constitutional law should not be exciting, it should be dull. This is riveting.

And bad, as the rules and conventions of centuries of UK Government is trashed by the child-king.

Johnson is the blockage that needs to be removed. Democracy is the laxative.
