The end, when it came, was sudden.
But it has been coming for three long years.
Johnson's term as PM was never going to go well, but having to deal with a global pandemic was so far out of his self-centred comfort zone, tens of thousands of extra deaths occurred and billions of pounds of tax-payer's money was spaffed.
Johnson's only principle is self-survival.
Everything else. including the country, it's economy, international standing, is disposable.
That Johnson lies is a given. That Number 10 sends Ministers out to do the press round to peddle the latest lies is also a given.
But yesterday, a letter from Simon McDonald, former PPS Sec at the FCO (under Johnson as Foreign Secretary), outlined the lies spun from Downing Street over the previous five days.
Damning stuff.
A statement in the Lords to the effect the PM held the highest standards disolved into laughter as the Leader of the House could not keep up the lie.
In a bizarre turn of events, the opening of the day's Cabinet meeting was filmed and released to the press, showing Ministers looking like they were attending a funeral.
Then in 12 mad minutes at tea time, the Heath Secretary and the Chancellor both resigned.
More worryingly for Johnson is that neither knew the other were going to do the act. What followed was a crazy few hours where junior ministers and the deputy chairman of the part all resigned too.
For now, Johnson clings to power. But not for long.
His replacements in the two great posts of State have to last more than two weeks to break the shortest term.
I'm not making any bets on what happens next.
Thank God Cameron helped the country avoid the chaos of an Ed Milliband Government in 2015, because look at the strong and stable leadership we have had since then!
It takes a very special leader to turn an 80 seat majority to this in just two and a half years, still with a sizable majority, he can't enact any policy without the approval of the extreme windowlicking wing of the ERG.
