Lords of misrule

Since 1979, 43 of your English years, the Conservative and Union Party have been in power all bar 13 years.

If any party is to blame where we are as a country, its the Tories.

30 years.

Thatcher.

Major.

Cameron.

May.

Johnson.

Major, Cameron and May were Prime Ministers of minority Governments.

Thatcher and Johnson had large Parliamentary majorities, which meant they could enact any of their manifestio commitments. You might not have agreed with Thatcher and her Government, but she had a plan and got it done.

Johnson has done fuck all.

He may have got Brexit done, but he and most of his Government and party now want to throw that away.

So, not done.

And with an 80 seat majority, Johnson should have been able to pass any legislation through Parliament.

And yet.

The ERG, the windowlicking party within a party, with something more than 50 members who vote en block, can and would vote against any Government policy they think is unpure. The ERG voted aganst May's Brexit deal as much as any Labour remain loving MP did.

Life should not have been any easier for a PM with an 80 seat majority, and yet to satisy the ERG, Johnson, and May, took the Conservative party further and further to the right.

Whoever becomes the next Leader and therefore PM, will takeover the same party and Government as Johnson left. Nothing will really change. There will be no major policy changes, there will be no new direction, anything that is done will be to humour and please the ERG.

Fuck what's good for the country.

It is all so pointless.

And so for no real reason, Government will be suspended to see which one of Johnson's former senior Cabinet colleagues will replace him to deliver the same policies.
