Sunday 20th August 2023

An early morning walk, cut short sadly by a sore back, so back home along Collingwood it was for me, but not before seeing a few Common Blue on the fields, though no Clouded Yellows even if there were a few Lucerne.

Along the lane, Ivy is beginning to book and elderberries are quickly ripening. As so are blackberries, but we really need lots more sun so the fruit is super sweet..

Two hundred and thirty two Back home to wait for Jools, then have a brew before pizza for lunch between the football.

First up it was Spain v England in the woman's world cup, but England not really got going and so lost 1-0, and the second half of that clashed with the first half of Norwich v Millwall. I had the big TV with the world cup on, and Norwich and sound on the laptop, so managed to keep up, and Norwich put in their best performance for nearly three year, romping to a 3-0 lead before substitutions made the game more even and The Lions pulled one back.

Celastrina argiolus There was then Villa v Everton, which Villa also romped to a win in, running out 4-0 winners, and as my Dad would say, Everton were lucky to get nil.

Elderberries And finally West Ham v Chelsea, with the visitors having spent nearly a billion quid in 11 and a half months on players, and still looked like stranger and so lost 3-1.

Seven hours of football, and believe it or not, that was too much.

While I was watching football, Jools made a Victoria sponge which we had a slice of for supper. Instead of buttercream she used mascarpone, which worked very well indeed.

Victoria And soon after, it was time for bed.
