Wednesday 14th October 2020

I know I should be physing in the mornings. And afternoons. But the alarm doesn't go off until six in the morning, and once i get out of bed, drink my first coffee and review what shit the world has been getting up to overnight, it is really time to get dressed and be ready for work. So, from Monday, we will rise at half five, to give us an extra half an hour to squeeze some phys in.

Two hundred and eighty eight Once the first session is done, then it should get easier.

At least Wednesday was going to be bright, and have no rain. Already at six there was light on the southeastern horizon: that called for a proper brew.

We have bought strawberries to have for breakfast since spring back in April, but the last punnet we bought had greeny-red fruits with little taste. From Thursday it will be tinned grapefruit instead. All ready for the long, hard winter ahead.

A brisk walk to Windy Ridge avoiding the floods Jools had a day in te garden planned, planting the flowers and shrubs she bought, filling the now empty bed along the side of the drive. She also spread the manue, putting down a mulsh to protect and feed the plants. We might need another ton at some point, we shall see.

We have sandwiches for lunch, but we both crave chocolate either on a biscuit or in its purest form. We go without.

A brisk walk to Windy Ridge avoiding the floods Work was quiet, and I was suffering from a little cabin fever, so we went out for a walk. What with the heavy rain over the previous two days, we knew that the Dip would be too muddy, as would the lane past the farm up to Windy Ridge, so we have to be creative.

A brisk walk to Windy Ridge avoiding the floods We cut up to Collingwood, then down that slope and up the other side before taking one of the parallel lanes to Windy Ridge wood. I see no butterflies, only a few plants in flower, but see a huge colony of honey fungus in a hedge That counts for excitement here.

We have leftover pasta and ragu for dinner, and garlic bread and red wine. It was better than on Tuesday.

And then to football: England v Denmark, and was a poor game. England had Maguire sent off and conceded a very, very soft penalty. And that was that.

Scully sat on my lap as I finished my beer, all in all, not a bad day.
