First day at Big School.

THe Secret Diary of Elizabeth Russ, aged 17 and three quarters.

Although that idea is quite a good one, I don't have the energy to see it through.

But, for what it's worth, today was Liz Triss's first full day in office, and she had to face PMQs.

And, after listening, I can say in all honesty, she's not as bad as I thought she would be. She had some quips, but was serious, and i have heard it said, dull.

Starmer is also dull.

Things is, Truss has bet all on reducing taxes, and hoping that that act will make us all richer and increase tax revenues, increase demand and the trickle down effect enrich the country even further.

Problem is, George Osbourne tried that from 2010 until he resigned in 2016, and it didn't work. Austerity distibutes money to the richest from the poorest by public sector cuts. And stays there.

Tax cuts work only on those who pay taxes. And have greater effect on those who pay more tax and therefore earn more. It it regressive in the extreme. And doesn't help businesses.

Truss is not stupid.

She may seem that, but isn't.

It has been suggested she became what others wanted, from a republican anti-monarchist to a Brexit hardliner, there is the strong possibility she believes none of it. Not a word.

Or does.

We don't know.

She did agree that there needed to be caps and rebates. The question is just who will foot the bill: the economy as a whole, the energy industry (via windfall taxes) or by long structed debt that the taxpayer will pay for over several decades.

She ruled out windfall taxes. And the term "Truss tax" is alive and well for her preferred solution of a lifetime of taxes for each man, woman and child.
