Screwed

A follow up post from the one this morning.

Afghanistan is a follow on from Brexit, where the UK Government, full of ex-Vote Leavers, assumed that the US would be there to bail us (th UK) out. Special relationship and preferential trade deals and all that.

But, Republican and Democratic Presidents have now planned and executed America First foreign policy, unilaterally, without consultation or thought for the UK, the EU, NATO or any other of their allies.

Or as DAG says:

"The quaint irony of a Brexit government 'furious' with another sovereign nation for acting unilaterally in its own interests."

This would have been fine, if the same people hadn't been such fucking pyromanics in burning bridges with our European friends and partners over Brexit, and find now that our influence is much reduced.

The UK now finds itself caught between the US that cares for itself, and the EU still smarting from the UK being a rogue state.

It is a mess, and in Cabinet we have the most untalented group of snake oil salesmen and women it is possible to have. No actual talent for their briefs, and as far as Mr Raab is concerned, trying to blame the FCO and his junior Ministers for his ignoring warning and going on holiday anyway means his time there must be measured in hours.

And yet, if Johnson were to sack Raab for being crap, he would have to sack all Ministers for being crap, or breaking the Ministerial Code, which would include himself.

But the days of Ministerial Responsibility are way behind us, when someone would resign as a matter of honour having fucked up, is long gone.

If 160,000 or more excess deaths isn't a resignation matter for Johnson and Hancock, then nothing is.

One more thought from DAG before we go: the UK constitution is whatever the Government and PM can get away with. And at the moment, its almost anything.
